313 Club
This story was inspired by a childhood book I used to read quite a bit, “The Goodness Gorrillas” which I recently rediscovered when my mom brought some of my childhood things over for me. It’s about a group of kids who do ‘guerrilla acts of kindness.’ But this story of mine, centers around three young boys who want to do good for the sake of Allah (swt), and who want to serve Imam Mahdi (aj) with every action they take. I have these boys pretending to be soldiers in the way they know how, pretending to ride horses (as it is a very recommended act to learn and to know how), gaining knowledge, and serving others. And then, one of them experiences something so painful and close to home. A loss indicative of the current climate we are living in. And the friends do their best to help him out. And somehow, they realize that advocacy and action can look like more than serving others. It can look like holding others accountable (like policy makers), protests, and writing letters to the most powerful people in the world, especially the leader of their 313 Club, our beloved Imam of our time, Imam Mahdi (may Allah hasten his reappearance).
